The new scleral depressor combined with plug forceps for 3-port vitrectomy has been developed. The tip of the new scleral depressor consists of two 4.0 mm thick non-slipping heads bent at an angle of 120 degrees that are connected to a cross-action handgrip. The wide bent tip of this scleral depressor is used for indentation of the sclera during peripheral vitrectomy. It is also used for grasping the plug from the opposite manipulation port while simultaneously indenting the sclera. The new scleral depressor facilitated peripheral vitrectomy with less changing of instruments and no notable complications in all cases. This instrument is useful for scleral indentation during peripheral vitrectomy.
